Microphone Grille Cleaning

Every stage vocalist knows that excessive use of microphone makes it easy to get contaminated by lipstick, saliva, spittle or get a disgusting smell of cigarette smoke in many clubs. So cleaning these microphones can not only provide good performance, but also keep them sanitary. What is a fast and effective way to clean a microphone grill? This article will provide the best solution to microphone cleaning.

Mic grille is easy contaminated by lipsticks and saliva if over used. So it is important to clean the microphone grilles.

For removable grilles and foam windscreens:

  1. Remove the grille from microphone. (If grilles are not easy to be removed, then rock them back and forth gently and avoid pulling them off with excessive force, which may result in damages of cartridge.)
  2. Adding mild detergent to water to form a mild disinfectant. Clean the microphone grille and foam windscreen using a toothbrush with soft bristles to remove any stains on the microphone grille and unwanted odors.
  3. Dry your microphone grille in the air. If you are in a hurry, you can dry them with the help of hair dryer on a low heat setting.
  4. Reattach the grille to the microphone after it is completely dry.

For unmovable grilles and foam windscreens:

  1. Turn the microphone upside down.
  2. Use a toothbrush dipping mild solution of water and detergent to clean the grille and chase disgusting smell away.
  3. Turn the microphone right-side up until it is dry.

Note:
Be especially careful to avoid any moisture seeping into the microphone during cleaning as moisture always means disaster.
